
Unitymedia said it aims to complete this upgrade of its fibre-cable network, including the implementation of the DOCSIS 3.1 transmission standard, and equip 90 percent of households in both cities for gigabit-speed connections by March 2019. New customers in Dusseldorf, the capital of NRW, and Cologne, the first “Gigabit City” in Germany with over 1 million inhabitants, can register for a 24-month gigabit-internet package with Unitymedia for EUR 99.99 per month and receive download speeds of 1 Gbps and upload speeds of 50 Mbps, it said.
