Uruguay-Brazil-US fibre cable ready by end 2017

The new fibre-optic submarine cable connecting Uruguay to Brazil and the US is on target for completion by the end of next year, reports Uruguayan daily El Mundo, citing Andres Tolosa, the president of state-run telecoms operator Antel. "The two sections from Uruguay to Brazil and from Brazil to the United States will be ready by mid to late 2017," said Tolosa, adding that the 2,000 kilometre cable "will give us sovereignty in terms of direct connection and costs."
