US cable channels partner on streaming entertainment bundle - report

A group of cable channels has grouped together in the US to launch a new streaming service, focused on entertainment rather than sport. The package including channels owned by Discovery Communications, Viacom, AMC Networks, A+E Networks and Scripps Networks Interactive will have a soft launch in the coming weeks, people familiar with the situation told the Wall Street Journal. Subscriptions will cost less than USD 20 a month.

The bundle includes channels with nonfiction and lifestyle programming, children’s fare and scripted dramas. The service will be called Philio, the same name as the company who developed it for the broadcasters. Philo has specialized previously in streaming TV for college campuses.
