US consumer groups call on FTC to probe Facebook facial-recognition tool

US consumer groups have submitted a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission accusing Facebook of harming users' privacy rights with its facial-recognition feature, reports the Wall Street Journal. The coalition of consumer bodies led by the Electronic Privacy Information Center said Facebook "routinely scans photos for biometric facial matches without the consent of the image subject, adding that it employs Facebook users' confirmations to help "advance its facial recognition techniques."
