US court rejects early end to NSA metadata collection

A federal appeals court in New York rejected an effort by civil liberties groups to end the US National Security Agency's phone records surveillance programme before it is overhauled next month, the Wall Street Journal reported. At issue is the NSA's collection of metadata on US phone records. In June, Congress passed a law that will end collection of the data, instead allowing the NSA to search the phone companies' records only if it gets court approval. The law gives the government until late November to make the change. However, privacy advocates, including the American Civil Liberties
