US govt allows disclosure of NSA info requests

US tech companies have won government permission to disclose information on how many times the National Security Agency requests information about their customers. The companies are hoping the greater transparency will help them refute reports that they allow unfettered NSA access to customer data. Apple was the first to release the data following approval from the US Justice Department. In the first half of 2013, the company received in total 927 requests for customer information from US law enforcement officials and 249 requests from the NSA.
