US govt mulls restricting China's access to semiconductor technology - report

Monday 17 February 2020 | 15:23 CET | News
The US government is thinking of imposing new trade restrictions on China, the Wall Street Journal reported. The idea would be to limit China's access to US semiconductor equipment. In particular, the changes under draft would force chip producers to get special licenses if they intend to use US equipment to produce chips for Huawei, sources said. The foreign direct product rule normally only restricts the use of US technology by foreign companies making military or national security products. Changes to the rule are being drafted by the Commerce Department.
