The US is in talks with Brazil and its local companies on funding the acquisition of 5G equipment produced by Ericsson and Nokia, US ambassador Todd Chapman told daily Folha de Sao Paulo. Funding would be provided by the International Development Finance Corporation, a US government agency.
He said this type of funding is a matter of “national security” to Washington and aims to “protect data and intellectual property, as well as sensitive information of nations”. Chapman added that allowing Chinese companies in the country’s 5G deployment could discourage investments by other foreign companies.
