US internet TV services add subscribers, amid continued losses at pay-TV providers

The largest pay-TV providers in the US, making up around 95 percent of the market, lost about 405,000 net video subscribers in the third quarter, higher than the loss of 250,000 subscribers the year before but lower than the 655,000 lost in the second quarter, according to the latest study from Leichtman Research. Internet-delivered services (Sling TV and DirecTV Now) bucked the trend, adding about 535,000 subscribers, higher than the 200,000 net adds the year before and bringing their combined total to nearly 2.5 million.
