US mayors ask FCC to upgrade internet access for schools

The bipartisan leadership of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM), representing more than 1,000 cities with populations of 30,000 or more, have urged the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to modernise the E-Rate programme, a move that will help advance the President's ConnectED goal of connecting 99 percent of America's K-12 students to broadband in five years. In a joint letter to the FCC, the mayors called on the FCC to take swift action to modernise the E-Rate programme to bring broadband to every school and library and Wi-Fi to every classroom.
