US net neutrality changes take effect

Tuesday 12 June 2018 | 08:38 CET | News
The new rule on net neutrality in the US kicked in on 11 June. The 'Restoring Internet Freedom Order' overturns some of the main tenants of internet regulation passed under the Obama presidency, handing much of the enforcement to the consumer protection regulator the FTC. There are still groups working to change things back: the US Senate agree in May to review the FCC decision following a petition from Democrat Senators, supported by a number of civil rights groups. The FCC decision also faces a number of legal challenges in court, including from state public prosecutors.
