US states file lawsuit to block Icann handover

Attorneys general of four US states have filed a last-minute court appeal to try and block the US government's handover of control of Icann to an independent governance structure. The US government's contract to manage Icann is expected to end on 30 September, but a number of Republican politicans have tried to block the changes, saying the US would leave the internet under threat if it were to give up control.
