Veon appoints chief strategy officer
The Veon Group has appointed Alex Kazbegi chief strategy officer, effective 18 February. Kazbegi will report to the chairman and CEO, Ursula Burns.

Most recently, Kazbegi was managing director of EMEA telecom, transportation, infrastructure and healthcare research at Renaissance Capital. He holds dual British and Georgian citizenship and was awarded an MBA from Tulane University in the US and a PhD in theoretical and mathematical physics from Tbilisi State University.

Veon Group has announced that Group CFO Trond Westlie will step down at the end of September, after barely two years in the job. He joined Veon in 2017 and has since professionalised the company's finance function, embedding a strong performance management culture across the group. During his tenure, Veon has delivered strong, reliable quarter on quarter performance and consistent financial delivery, according to a statement from the group.

Veon plans stable cash flow, modest revenue and EBITDA growth in 2019

Veon reported fourth-quarter and full-year results in line with its targets and said it expects similar modest growth in organic revenues and EBITDA in 2019 and stable cash flow. The dividend increased slightly, to 29 cents a share from 28 cents last year.

Afonin earlier worked as director of the Southern regional branch of Russian mobile operator Beeline, which is also controlled by the Veon group. He replaces Dmitriy Shukov as CEO of Beeline Uzbekistan, following his decision to step down after three years in the role.

Veon confirms chair Burns as new CEO

Veon has appointed Ursula Burns as CEO. Burns has worked as the chairman of the Veon management board since July 2017, acted as executive chairman since March 2017 and took up CEO duties already in March on an interim basis. During that time she has introduced a simplified corporate structure, including a leaner operating model along with an increased focus on emerging markets, Veon said.

Veon confirms Komarov as Kyivstar CEO

Veon Group has appointed Alexander Komarov the new CEO of its Ukrainian operator Kyivstar. Komarov comes from the mobile operator Beeline Kazakhstan, also controlled by the Veon Group, where he has served as CEO since 2016 and prior to that as COO. He has held the position of interim CEO at Kyivstar since July this year.
