Verizon backs University of Michigan connected-car testbed

Verizon is one of 15 companies that will invest USD 1 million each over three years in the University of Michigan's M-City, a 32-acre simulated urban and suburban environment designed to support testing of new connected and automated vehicle technologies before they are tried out on public roads. The company's director of corporate strategy for IoT verticals, Amit Jain, said Verizon would be involved in research to explore how smartphones can be used to further enhance vehicle-to-pedestrian communications.
