Verizon Wireless reported service revenues up 7.7 percent to USD 15.4 billion, led by a 21.1 percent jump in data revenues to USD 6.6 billion and strong smartphone sales. The EBITDA margin improved to 46.3 percent from 43.7 a year earlier. The retail customer base grew by 734,000 in the three months, including 501,000 in postpaid, to a total 93.0 million. Total retail churn was 1.24 percent, an improvement of 9 basis points year-over-year.
At the wireline activities, revenues fell 2.0 percent to USD 9.9 billion due to a drop in wholesale, and the EBITDA margin dropped to 22.6 percent from 23.6 a year ago. Consumer revenues were up 1.7 percent to USD 3.4 billion, supported by strong ARPU from the Fios services, and enterprise revenues grew 0.9 percent to USD 3.9 billion, helped by the Terremark takeover. Total voice connections fell by 437,000 in the three months to 23.7 million, while broadband subscribers rose by 104,000 to almost 8.8 million, as Fios growth offset declines in DSL. Fios TV customers increased by 180,000 to 4.35 million. Verizon said it still expects to improve wireline margins for the full year, helped by a repositioning of its enterprise offers.
