Verizon to sell part of 700MHz band spectrum

Verizon Wireless announced plans to sell part of its spectrum in the 700MHz band. The move may help the operator secure regulatory approval for its planned acquisition of AWS spectrum from four cable operators. The sale of the 700MHz A and B licences, acquired in an auction in 2008, will only go ahead if Verizon closes the takeover of AWS licences from Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Cox and Leap Wireless. These deals are at various stages of regulatory clearance and are expected to close by this summer. Verizon is deploying its LTE network with its 700MHz upper C band licences and plans to use the additional AWS spectrum to expand the 4G network. The company said it will begin the process of soliciting interest from potential buyers to ensure the sale of the 700MHz licences can go ahead quickly after the AWS deals close.
