Verizon, T-Mobile US apply for 5G test licences

Verizon has requested special temporary authority (STA) from the FCC to test equipment from Ericsson, Intel, Qualcomm and Samsung in the 28 GHz band, one of the bands identified by the FCC for 5G services, reports Fierce Wireless. According to the application, the tests to be conducted in Euless, TX, and South Plainfield, NJ, "will advance an understanding of millimetre wave spectrum, channel bandwidths, and uplink/downlink ratios for residential and commercial deployments." Separately, T-Mobile US is also seeking FCC permission to test millimetre wave technology in the 28 GHz and 39 GHz
