Verizon to launch Droid by Motorola on 6 November

Verizon Wireless and Motorola have unveiled the Droid by Motorola, the first smartphone powered by Android 2.0. Droid by Motorola offers a 3.7-inch, high-resolution screen and Qwerty keyboard and is a location-aware, over-the-air updating and multi-tasking phone. The Droid features a multi-window HTML browser and users can access the internet at 3G speeds or via Wi-Fi. Other features include a 5 megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash, auto focus and image stabilisation; voice-activated search with Google Search; and Google Maps Navigation, providing turn-by-turn voice guidance as a free feature of Google Maps. Users can customise the Droid with thousands of applications and hundreds of widgets available on Android Market. Users can toggle back and forth between up to six applications at a time. With the handy Android notification panel, users can go straight to the message or simply ignore it, and get back to the task at hand. Other pre-loaded applications and enhancements to Google Mobile services include Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Amazon MP3 Store and Verizon Wireless Visual Voice Mail. The Droid by Motorola will be available in the United States exclusively at Verizon Wireless stores and online from 6 November for USD 199.99 with a new two-year customer agreement after a USD 100 mail-in rebate.
