Verizon Wireless unveiled its latest Android phone from Motorola, the Droid X. The 3G phone includes a 1GHz processor, mobile hotspot capabilities, a 4.3-inch touch screen, 8 megapixel camera and HD video recorder, and DLNA and HDMI connectivity. It will also be one of the first to feature the Android 2.2 OS and Adobe Flash Player 10.1, which will be released as over-the-air updates later this summer. The Droid X also comes with the new BlockBuster On Demand service for watching videos on Verizon's Vcast service. Movies cost USD 9.99 and up to purchase and USD 3.99 each to rent, with hundreds of titles available from the launch. The Droid X will launch on 15 July for USD 199.99 after a USD 100 rebate with a two-year service plan for both voice and data. The 3G Mobile Hotspot service costs an extra USD 20 per month. Verizon has launched a number of popular Android devices in recent months, starting with the original Droid by Motorola nine months ago. Google said at the launch of the Droid X that the number of Android phones activated daily has risen to 160,000.
