Verizon to roll out plan with symmetrical speeds of 750 Mbps

Verizon will roll out a new broadband service with symmetrical speeds of 750 Mbps on 14 January. Named Fios Instant Internet, the service will be available to nearly 7 million homes and businesses in greater New York City / northern New Jersey, Philadelphia and Richmond, with more to follow in 2017. After the initial launch, the service will be available in portions of Boston and Norfolk later in the first quarter.

Fios Instant Internet is available to consumers at USD 149.99 per month for standalone service and USD 169.99 a month for a triple-play bundle with TV and landline phone voice service.

Verizon heeft over het vierde kwartaal van 2016 een omzet gerealiseerd van 32,2 miljard dollar, 5,4 procent minder op jaarbasis. De winst per aandeel daalde op jaarbasis van 1,32 dollar naar 1,10 dollar. De aangepaste winst per aandeel kwam uit op 0,86 dollar versus 0,89 dollar, mede het gevolg van pensioenen en afvloeiingsregelingen. Verizon launches first Fios services in Boston

Verizon announced that the first parts of Boston can now order its Fios fibre broadband and TV services. This follows the company's announcement earlier in the year that it would spend USD 300 million expanding the fibre network across Boston over the next six years. The services are first available in parts of Dorchester, Roslindale and West Roxbury. Residents in these first neighborhoods can go online to check Fios availability at their specific address.

Verizon has been told to to change a number of ads, following a complaint by Comcast, FierceCable reported. The National Advertising Review Board, an offshoot of the Council of Better Business Bureaus, said two claims were potentially confusing to customers.
