Verizon to use Alcatel-Lucent wavelength routing technology

Alcatel-Lucent has announced the launch of a new, highly flexible, wavelength routing technology that will be deployed by Verizon on its US ultra longhaul optical network. The telecoms equipment manufacturer said its technology will allow operators to quickly adjust wavelength connections, automate tasks, and identify and route around faults in fibre infrastructure. The aim is to drive scalability, flexibility and reliability. Verizon will be using Alcatel-Lucent's 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) on its long-haul network, having selected the 1830 PSS converged WDM/OTN/Packet based-platform
