Modern Times Group (MTG) unit Viasat Norway said it is the first television service distributor to broadcast in 4K quality via IPTV, in cooperation with Broadnet’s residential fibre provider HomeNet. Together, they will offer Homenet customers the opportunity to watch Viasat Ultra HD, with images at 3,840 by 2,160 pixels.

Viasat brought out its 4K-compliant decoder in 2016 but there has been little output in such a high resolution so far. The service from HomeNet is available from February. Every customer will get a new UHD box and anyone signing up for the basic package will have access to the UHD channel and film rentals in UHD, as well as Viasat’s sports channels and Viaplay.
