Videotron CEO to step down at year-end

Canadian operator Videotron's CEO Manon Brouillette is leaving the group after more than 14 years of service, including the last five as President and CEO of Videotron. Brouillette will leave at the end of 2018, while remaining a member of the Quebecor board. Quebecor said it would announce the name of Brouillette's successor in due course.

Brouillette said her decision to step down was for personal reasons. Quebecor CEO Pierre Karl Peladeau paid tribute to her "vital contribution to Videotron's success throughout her years with the company and her key role in Quebecor's business plan" and thanked her for her service.

Quebecor 's Videotron added 23,300 customers in the first quarter, a slowdown from the 34,400 taken in the previous quarter but higher than the year before. The figure this year includes 38,800 connections to the mobile telephony service, 10,900 to Club Illico and 6,300 to the cable internet service.

Quebecor's Telecommunications division, including Videotron, had revenues for the fourth quarter advance to USD 866.1 million from a restated 841.7 million the year earlier, while the adjusted EBITDA climbed to USD 425.9 million from a restated 394.9 million. Growth was again driven by all Videotron segments and namely its mobile, internet and Club Illico operations. Quebecor appoints new CFO, and new CEO for Videotron

Quebecor announced other appointments as well. Marc Tremblay will become the company's COO, while keeping his responsibilities as chief legal officer and corporate secretary. Hugues Simard, who was with Quebecor from 1998 to 2017, will become its CFO.

Videotron quarterly EBITDA up 9%, led by mobile, OTT growth

Canadian operator Videotron reported third-quarter revenues up 3.6 percent to CAD 860 million, and adjusted EBITDA grew 9.1 percent to CAD 426 million. The growth was led by 15.7 percent higher revenues from its mobile business and a 17.8 percent increase in revenue from its OTT video service Club Illico.

Canadian cable operator Videotron has launched a new brand called Fizz to target younger customers. The company also plans to introduce its own voice-controlled smart home hub called Helix, announced CEO Manon Brouillette in a speech at the Canadian Club of Montreal.

Videotron placed first in Leger's first poll of young Quebecers

Videotron placed first in the telecommunications sector and 10th overall among the Top 100 Quebec companies in Leger's first poll of young Quebecers aged 13 to 34. The survey rated companies on their "coolness" factor. Respondents were asked to say which companies from eight industries are the best. A dozen choices, a mix of leading local and international brands, were suggested in each industry. A total of 1,223 young Quebecers were polled between 15 July and 20 August.

Videotron maintains mobile sales momentum in Q2 as cable customer growth stalls

Canadian media group Quebecor reported second-quarter revenues of CAD 847.2 million for its Videotron subsidiary, up by 2.5 percent year-on-year (+2.3% in Q1). The mobile division maintained a solid performance, with service revenues increasing by 12.9 percent to CAD 130.7 million. The growth rate improved to 5.8 percent for fixed broadband services, based on CAD 271.6 million worth of sales, while cable television services saw their combined revenues drop by 0.6 percent to USD 251.5 million.

Canadian operator Videotron announced the appointment of France-Eliane Nolet as Vice President, Business Sales. Nolet has over 20 years experience with Canadian media companies and also served as President of the Montreal youth chamber of commerce.

Videotron launches marketing campaign in Ottawa

Videotron started a large-scale campaign to raise its profile in the Ottawa area and position itself as an alternative to the existing mobile carriers. Videotron has been in the Ottawa market for several years with its mobile network. It's now gearing up to accelerate its business development in the region and win over Ottawa-area consumers. The summer-long campaign will include billboards, online ads, radio commercials and major event sponsorships.

Videotron customer growth slows in Q1, revenues up 2.3%

Canadian operator Videotron reported first-quarter revenues up 2.3 percent year-on-year to CAD 823.4 million, and adjusted EBITDA rose 6.9 percent to CAD 410.5 million, supported by continued expansion in the mobile market. Excluding the impact of the new accounting rule IFRS 15, adjusted EBITDA rose 10.8 percent, the company said.

The mobile customer base rose by 33,700 in the three months, to a total of 1.024 million, while broadband customer growth slowed to 12,400 net additions, to finish the year with 1.667 million subscribers. Revenues from mobile service were up 18.0 percent year-on-year to CAD 161.8 million, and broadband revenues rose 5.9 percent to CAD 263.1 million.
