Vienna city council suspends WLAN hotspot construction

Monday 14 August 2017 | 09:35 CET | News
Vienna now has 409 WLAN hotspots in 287 locations but a representative of city council lighting department MA 33 told broadcaster ORF that the number will not grow in the near future, reported Der Standard. Although several weeks ago the spokesman of Vienna's ICT Council Andreas Mailath-Pokorny said the construction of hotspots would potentially continue in 2018, for the moment the project WLAN 400, launched in 2012, is closed for financial reasons. Districts can signal their need for additional hotspots to MA 33, but these will not be financed from the city budget.
