Virgin Mobile to launch as MVNO in Ecuador in H2

Tuesday 31 January 2017 | 11:17 CET | News
Virgin Mobile has secured a licence to operate as an MVNO in Ecuador, reports local business daily El Comercio, citing the company's lawyer Daniel Pino. Ecuadorian regulator Arcotel granted the licence last month and the operator will begin to offer services in the second half of the year, said Pino, adding that Virgin Mobile is initially aiming for a 5 percent share of the market. Although the MVNO has already begun talks to use Telefonica's Movistar network in Ecuador, it hasn't ruled out negotiating deals with rivals America Movil (Claro) and state-owned CNT.
