Visa, Worldline to pilot Android NFC payments in France

Visa Europe France and Atos Worldline plan to pilot an NFC payment app for Android handsets next spring, Visa Europe France CEO Gerard Nebouy told Le Nouvel Observateur. Customers will be able to wave their smartphones over contactless payment terminals at 350,000 merchants in France to pay for goods and services. For purchases of over EUR 20, they will also have to input a password. The solution is based on Google's Host Card Emulation (HCE) technology, with cardholder data stored in the cloud rather than on the smartphone.
