Vivendi confirms departure of SFR CEO Esser
French telecom operator SFR's chairman and CEO, Frank Esser, left the company with immediate effect on 26 March. Parent company Vivendi's chairman and CEO, Jean-Bernard Levy has taken over his responsibilities until a replacement can be found. Esser was SFR's COO from 2000-2002 and chairman and CEO since 2002. Vivendi praised the departing executive for his outstanding work as he led SFR successfully in the mobile, fixed and internet access markets through a very competitive environment. His departure is linked to SFR's loss of 200,000 subscribers since the launch of competitor Free Mobile. At Vivendi's results presentation Levy said that SFR's operating profit was expected to decrease by 12 to 15 percent this year and that costs would have to be tightened.
