Vivendi increases Telecom Italia stake to 15.5%

French media giant Vivendi has increased its stake in Telecom Italia to just under 15.5 percent from the previous 14.9 percent, according to a filing with market regulator Consob. The move could be a sign of the French company’s long-term commitment to Telecom Italia or a way of strengthening its position ahead of a possible conversion of non-voting saving shares into common stock, according to Italian press reports. In a recent interview with Bloomberg TV, Vivendi CEO Arnaud De Puyfontaine didn’t rule out further increasing the company’s stake in Telecom Italia, which he said represented Vivendi’s first step in building a media group with a clear southern European focus.
