Vivendi needs its resources for films, sports - CEO

In reply to minority shareholder PSAM's call for French media group Vivendi to pay a bigger dividend, its CEO, Bertrand Meheut, said pay TV subsidiary Canal Plus plays a vital role in the French and European production ecosystem supporting the film and TV industry and sports, writes Les Echos. Meheut said, "We will not allow this virtuous system which favours employment and creation in France to be dismantled," adding, "Canal Plus should be part of a Vivendi with strong resources, and I do not want them to be used in their entirety for anything else than developing the group."
