Vodacom SAfrica mulls acquisition of Broadband Infraco

Vodacom South Africa is considering a bid for state-owned Broadband Infraco, Bloomberg reported. The acquisition could help Vodacom make up for the cancellation of a ZAR 7 billion merger with Neotel, which was abandoned after the High Court ruled that Vodacom would not be able to take control of licences owned by Neotel. Broadband Infraco's assets were valued at ZAR 2.1 billion in March 2014. Acquiring an asset like Broadband Infraco would support the government's ambition to increase broadband access, said Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub.
