Bundelz, the prepaid auto insurance from Vodafone and Nationale Nederlanden (NN) is getting expanded. Vodafone launched Bundelz in June 2017 together with NN as a prepaid insurance bundle for 1000 kilometers and no monthly premium. The target group was the occasional driver, car owners who mainly use the car for short journeys and drive a maximum of 7,500 kilometers per year.

The trial will run until July 2018. However, according to Vodafone and NN it is already clear that there are enough occasional drivers for whom the monthly fixed costs of a car insurance are too high for their use. The pilot will now therefore be expanded to 1,000 users, with the Bundelz app as a new functionality. With continued success, Bundelz will be brought onto the market over the course of this year. With Bundelz, car owners buys a bundle that gives insurance for 1000 km. A new bundle is automatically sold when the limit is reached, so that the driver need never go without insurance. There are bundles for EUR 50 and EUR 70.

New Bundelz app

Until now, Vodafone Bundelz users regularly sent an update per SMS and an e-mail once a month. With the new Bundelz app, customers can see how many km they still have. There is also a 'find my car back' function in the app, because the Bundelz customers indicated during the trial that would be convenient. Next to the app there will be a new bundle, especially for those occasional drivers that have not damaged their cars over the past few years. The first phase of the pilot also shows that the occasional driver group is large and diverse.

Example of the new Bundelz app

Sparklab, the Nationale-Nederlanden innovation lab that Bundelz is developing, started trials in June. Sparklab developed Bundelz together with Vodafone, Intrasurance and Clifford. Vodafone is bringing in expertise and service in the field of Internet of Things and prepaid, Nationale-Nederlanden is complementing this with knowledge of insurance and the car market and Intrasurance is providing the insurance administration.

A 'smart plug' from Vodafone keeps track of the km driven. If the limit is in sight, the insured person receives a message and the bundle is automatically renewed. A bundle is valid for one year, after which the kilometers that have not been used will expire.
