Vodafone Germany activates 5G network sites in Berlin

Vodafone Germany announced that its 5G network is now live at the first location in Berlin, with two more 5G stations in the city set to become operational within days. 

Vodafone launched its 5G network in Germany in July. The the first residents and businesses in Berlin can now use 5G at the Berlin Adlershof science and technology park. It has also activated the first 5G stations in Frankfurt, Solingen, Duisburg and Bremen.

The operator now has 40 5G mobile base stations activated across Germany, with 10 more going live by end-August. It is aiming to reach 10 million people with 5G by end-2020, rising to 20 million by end-2021.

Vodafone Germany to cut jobs after Unitymedia takeover

The layoffs may take place both at Vodafone and Unitymedia in Germany. In total, Unitymedia employ 2,700 people and Vodafone around 16,000. External service providers will be used to create new permanent jobs. In addition, Vodafone expects about 400 new vacancies over the next two years, the report added.

Vodafone Germany launches 5G network for customers

The 5G stations are operating in the municipalities of Birgland (Bavaria), Lohmar (North Rhine-Westphalia) and Hattstedt (North Friesland), among others, and in the cities of Cologne, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Dortmund and Munich. Other 5G stations will be put into operation in August, including in Berlin, Bremen, Dresden, Darmstadt, Leipzig, Mulheim an der Ruhr and Frankfurt.

Vodafone signs partnership agreement with German Football League to install 5G in stadiums

Vodafone and the DFL are developing an app that provides football fans with information and data on the games in real time, via augmented reality on their smartphones, before, during and after the game. The real-time flow of information is based on around 1,600 games and 3.6 million so-called position points surveyed by the DFL in a Bundesliga match. The app visualizes the data and provides live graphics, statistics and analysis.

Vodafone Germany builds 5G station to test driverless parking

Vodafone Germany said it has built the first 5G station in its Campus in Dusseldorf, allowing cars to communicate on the network. The station was built on the 20 km of the test field KoMoD - Cooperative Mobility in the Digital Test Field Dusseldorf.
