Vodafone Germany to abandon circuit switched data this year

Vodafone Germany said it is will abandon the use of circuit switched data systems by 31 December. The CSD is a data transmission method from the 1990s in which data is transmitted via tones, similar to a voice call, the company explained, adding it is outdated, slow and prone to error. New systems no longer support this technology, and cheaper and more efficient solutions are available based on Internet Protocol (IP).
