Thailand to auction remaining 35MHz of bandwidth in 1800MHz spectrum in 2019
Thai telecom regulator National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) plans to sell the remaining 35MHz of 1800 MHz spectrum bandwidth in February 2019, Bangkok Post reports. The 35MHz of bandwidth (35x2MHz, upload and download) to be put up for sale in Thailand’s next auction is part of Total Access Communication's 1800MHz licence, which expired in September this year. 

The 35MHz will be divided into seven slots, each containing 5 MHz According to Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the NBTC, the reserve price for the remaining 35MHz auction of the 1800MHz licence will start at THB 12.48 billion for each 5MHz slot, the same as the previous auction.

Takorn also said the NBTC will offer longer licence terms for the 35MHz auction. "New licence payment terms for the 1800MHz licence of 8-10 years will reduce the financial burden for winners", he said. 

The NBTC is also considering auctioning low band such as 700- and 2600MHz spectra with the stipulation that winners are given high-band slots as well, such as 3500- to 3800MHz ranges and 23- to 28GHz ranges. The NBTC also plans to recall bandwidth on the spectrum range between 23- and 28GHz, which are partially used by Thaicom.

NBTC gets court injunction in DTAC case

Thailand's Central Administrative Court has decided not to allow Total Access Communication (DTAC) any leeway once the 28-year contract ends. The Court's decision offers 95,000 customers of Total Access Communication (DTAC) three more months to switch to a different spectrum or operator, Bangkok Post reports. The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) was planning to pull the plug on 15 September on the 850MHz spectrum operated by DTAC as the company's 28-year contract expired.

AWN to receive 1800 MHz spectrum license on 24 September

Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has approved the issuance of a 1800MHz licence to Advanced Wireless Network (AWN). On 19 September, AWN paid the watchdog its first upfront fee installment of over THB 6.25 billion, plus VAT of over THB 437.88 million for the 1800MHz licence, The Nation reports. It also handed a bank guarantee of THB6.69 billion (including VAT) to the watchdog, which is the value of the remaining unpaid upfront fee.

Thailand releases new rules for 900MHz spectrum auction

The board of Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has approved draft rules for the 900MHz auction, The Natioin reports, citing NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith. The changes from the previous rules include the increase of the starting bid price to over THB 37 billion from THB 35 billion. The new draft does not contain a clause requiring auction winner to be solely responsible for any interference between this 900MHz band and the same band allocated for the future r

Thai operator Total Access Communication (dtac) has launched its 'Turbo' service on 2300 MHz spectrum in Phuket. Dtac has also started a promotion to persuade Chinese tourists to visit Phuket again. The promotion includes privileges from dtac reward and Happy Tourist SIM for special discounts at over 300 hotels and restaurants around Phuket.

AIS, DTAC bid for 1800 MHz spectrum in Thailand

Dtac and AIS earlier announced that they would not participate in the 900 MHz spectrum auction, while True Move said it will not bid for either the 1800 or the 900 MHz spectrum license, claiming that the bandwidth in is operating on is sufficient to meet subscriber base growth.
