Vodafone India to launch 4G services by end-2015
Vodafone India has confirmed that it will launch its 4G services by December 2015. The first wave of the roll-out will cover the Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Kochi areas. Vodafone says testing of its 4G services has commenced successfully. Vodafone India acquired additional 4G LTE spectrum in 5 circles (Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Kerala and Karnataka) in February 2014 auctions. These circles together contribute to 50 percent of the total data revenues for Vodafone India.

Vodafone India has introduced its 'Mobile Internet Bus' in Gujarat. Equipped with a live mobile data experience zone, the 'Bus' will move across towns and villages in the state, ET reports. Vodafone currently has 13,350 2G and 3G sites in Gujarat that connect 95 percent of the state's population. The operator has 6.5 million data customers in the Gujarat circle.

Indian operator Videocon Telecommunications is in talks with three mobile operators for spectrum sharing and trading. Videocon expects to sign a deal soon, The Economic Times reports, citing company CEO Arvind Bali. On 9 September, the India government has approved spectrum trading regulations, which now allow operators to buy or sell spectrum to their market competitors.

BSNL to commercially launch 4G services by March 2016

Indian state-run operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) plans to launch 4G services by March 2016, BSNL chairman Anupam Shrivastava told ET. The operator also intends to reduce its 3G service rates by end-2015. "We will launch competitive tariff plans to match Reliance Jio and other private telecom service providers' pricing, be it 4G or 3G, by the end of this year", Shrivastava said. The campaign was part of various initiatives organized to promote Vodafone's latest prepay offering called 'Double Data'. Vodafone has launched 4G network trials in India. The operator is now piloting 4G services across selected areas, The Economic Times reports.
