Vodafone Italia eyes stake in Metroweb

Vodafone Italia has expressed interest in investing in fibre network operator Metroweb, together with other competitors. In an interview with Italian daily Corriere della Sera, Vodafone Italia CEO Paolo Bertoluzzo said that it would be unrealistic and uneconomical for each operator to develop their own fibre networks. Metroweb, which was recently acquired by investment fund F2i, owns the largest fibre network in Milan and the Lombardy region (over 5,000 km) and has announced plans to invest EUR 57 million.
