Vodafone Netherlands activates SON technology on 3G network

Vodafone Netherlands has activated SON technology on its 3G network and will soon start a pilot on its 4G network. The Self-Organising Network creates an automated platform for the network to handle issues of quality, capacity and coverage. SON has three facets according to the 3GPP: Self-Configuration, Self-Optimisation en Self-Healing. Vodafone said the deployment on the 3G network will allow it to free up spectrum more easily for 4G use.
