Vodafone NZ to decide soon on 2G services switch-off

Vodafone New Zealand said it expects to decide soon on a date for ending 2G mobile services. Spokeswoman Elissa Downey told Stuff.co.nz that the operator planned to turn off its 2G voice service and would confirm the timing soon. The company expects to keep its 2G running network until 2025, but only to support machines such as smart electricity meters, she said. It would "retire 2G handsets and turn off voice services" prior to that. "The timing for this is soon to be confirmed," she said. Australian carrier Telstra will shut down its 2G network in December with rival Optus following in
