Vodafone ordered to pay INR 20 bln to unify Indian licences

India's Supreme Court has ordered Vodafone India to pay INR 20 billion (EUR 283 million) to the department of telecommunications in order to receive a licence to merge six of its subsidiaries, the Economic Times reports. The operator started the merger process three years ago and needs to complete it in order to go ahead with its planned IPO of the Indian unit. The DoT had originally demanded INR 69.3 billion from Vodafone, including various fees converting its spectrum rights into unified licences at market-based prices.
