Vodafone Portugal partnered Rock in Rio-Lisbon to turn the 7th edition of the Rock in Rio-Lisbon music festival taking place at the Bela Vista Park into a "Smart Rock City", claiming a world first. As part of this Vodafone Smart Cities project, a set of technological products will be launched at the Cidade do Rock (Rock City).
In addition to positively touching the audience, the Vodafone Smart Cities project involves the adoption of a set of IoT products based on M2M technology. The products are meant to enable the monitoring of following critical areas for the perfect functioning of the festival, namely so-called “smart” energy, water, toilets, waste and air.
The various products have a common denominator which is Vodafone’s Centralised Technical Management (GTC) system, designed in partnership with the Portuguese company SSA Dynamics. The system will be installed in the Rock in Rio-Lisbon Operational Control Centre, the facility from where all the festival operations are managed. The GTC centralises and shows all the information collected by the sensors and shall issue warnings to prevent certain incidents. Vodafone is the technological partner of the festival responsible for all the communication services linked to this year’s edition.
