Vodafone Portugal launches 4K TV box, new channel
Vodafone Portugal has expanded its range of UHD/4K content with a new channel - Insight TV UHD. It also launched the TV Box UHD/4K for viewing programs in the new high definition. The Insight TV UHD channel is the first 4K channel totally dedicated to entertainment, presenting a wide range of content such as reality TV, documentaries and extreme sports. The TV box UHD/4K is offered to customers on the fibre network. Vodafone Portugal earlier launched other 4K content and said it will show some matches of the Euro football tournament in 4K.

Vodafone Portugal becomes Sport TV shareholder

Vodafone Portugal has signed an agreement with operator Nos and sports rights owner Olivedesportos to become a shareholder in premium sports channel Sport TV Portugal. Vodafone Portugal service revenue flat in Q2

Vodafone Portugal reported service revenues flat in Q2, as fixed customer growth was offset by price pressure on converged offers and fewer mobile customers. Total service revenue for its fiscal first quarter to June reached EUR 221 million, up just 0.2 percent year-on-year and flat versus the previous quarter. The mobile customer base dropped to 4.788 million from 4.850 million at the end of March, as the operator lost 76,000 prepaid users and gained 14,000 in postpaid. ARPU fell to EUR 11.7 from EUR 11.9

Portugal's media regulator ERC has issued a licence for a new religious TV channel that will start broadcasting in June, reports Correio de Manha. Kurios TV is a project backed by the Motes & Ideais company and will work in partnership with the Mana Igreja Crista church and other related associations. Vodafone Portugal signs contracts with three ministries

Vodafone Portugal has signed new contracts in the fixed telecoms segment with the Ministries of Agriculture, Marine and Justice, while in the mobile segment, a contract has been signed with BCP. In an interview with Jornal de Negocios, the CEO of Vodafone, Joao Mendes Dias, said that in recent years the operator has increased its share in the residential segment, mainly due to a competitive offer for the TV, internet and telephony services.

Meo introduces Ultra HD 4K set-top box

Portugal Telecom's Meo has become the first operator to offer its fibre customers a set-top box supporting Ultra HD 4K. The new MeoBox 4K will permit customers to access content in Ultra HD 4K quality, including some of the main sports events, 4K channels and on-demand content. With MeoBox 4K and a UHD compatible TV set, Meo Fiber customers will be able to watch the MCS TV 4K channel (offering lifestyle content and action sports) and Hispasat 4K (content about nature, culture and other issues).

Nos, Vodafone and Meo to air new RTP Ultra HD 4K channel

Portuguese pay-TV operators Nos, Vodafone and Meo have all announced that they will air the new RTP Ultra HD 4K channel, to be launched for the upcoming Euro 2016 football championship in France. The RTP Ultra HD 4K channel will air eight of the most important matches, from the opening match on 10 June to the final on 10 July.  Ultra HD 4K offers a resolution four times that of HD. On TV sets available in the market, the 4K technology adopts the standard of 3840 x 2160 pixels.
