Vodafone has revamped its handset subsidy system in Spain. Vodafone to reintroduce handset subsidies in Spain - report

Vodafone Spain will re-launch its handset subsidy system starting 1 August. The service will be offered temporarily, unlit 15 September for new subscribers, ADSL Zone reports. Back in April, the operator has decided to stop offering handsets free of charge for new customers, but instead subsidize the purchase of new smartphones, without charging interest. According to the same source, Vodafone now plans to restart offering handsets at starting prices of EUR 0 for new contract subscribers.

Spanish mobile operator Yoigo will terminate its handset subsidy offering. Orange plans to become the second–largest operator in Spain by 2015. El Corte Ingles introduces handset subsidies

Spain's largest retail group El Corte Ingles is offering handset subsidies. The offer is available in combination with Movistar and/or Vodafone tariff plan subscriptions. Customers can acquire mobile phones at prices starting at EUR 99 in up to 18 monthly installments. The minimum monthly installment in EUR 20. The offer is available until 30 April.

Vodafone Spain has responded to competitors with the country's lowest prepaid tariffs for existing customers, reports Cinco Dias, which describes this as the latest move in an ongoing mobile price war in the country. From 16 April, Vodafone prepaid customers on Gratuitas tariffs will have 100 minutes for on-net fixed and mobile calls, rather than the usual 60 minutes. Customers will also have 100 MB of mobile internet use and 100 SMS, rather than 60.

Orange to maintain mobile device subsidies in Spain

Orange Spain will maintain its policy of subsidizing mobile phones, an unnamed Orange spokesperson told local newspaper La Informacion. The statement follows Telefonica's decision to end handset subsidies, announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. "For now we will continue to [subsidize mobile phones] and wait to see how the market responds to Telefonica's move and then decide on our future strategy", the spokesperson said.
