Vodafone Spain has begun conducting LTE-A trials using its 4G network in the 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz bands, which has enabled the operator to reach speeds of up to 297 Mbps. The top speed currently available under the standard 4G LTE network is 150 Mbps. The trials were conducted in the Azca and Nuevos Ministerios business areas of Madrid, and the operator is hoping to install 4G networks able to carry the wider bandwidth LTE-A service in Madrid and Barcelona in 2014. The deployment will be accelerated as soon as the government frees up the 800 MHz frequency, slated for 01 January 2014 but facing probable delays.
