Vodafone to debut brain wave driven car racing experience via 4G

Thursday 17 May 2018 | 15:22 CET | News

Vodafone has introduced a game in which a race car can be driven using brain activity. Under the title 'Formula Brain competition', visitors can set a lap time in a number of selected Vodafone stores on a virtual circuit in the Formula Brain game. Vodafone developed the racing experience together with the Formula Student racing class, saying that the better a participant focuses, the faster the car will go. On the racetrack, brain activity of the driver will be measured by a headset with special sensors; these will measure the participant’s brain stimuli. Focusing hard sends signals via Vodafone’s 4G network to the physical race car. There will be a 4G live stream, with the car rushing past the participant, making the experience more complete.

The experience will be open from 19 May at selected Vodafone stores. On 20 June, the fastest drivers will compete against each other in the final at Circuit Lelystad with a real car. The winner will receive VIP tickets for the Grand Prix of Austria in Spielberg.

Telenet lets customers play role in film and video via VR

Telenet will also be opening a VR experience centre, in Antwerp, on 16 June. At ‘The Park’, visitors will be able to try out VR headsets with a backpack of sensors and walk around in a fictional world where they play the lead character. The company expects the site will offer a chance to promote new films, series and programmes.

Vodafone also running racing campaign with Samsung

Vodafone has started a campaign with Samsung, with weekend tickets for the Grand Prix of Austria as prizes. Under the deal, customers buying a limited edition of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones under the name Red Bull Ring pack will also get two tickets for the grand Prix. They will also be able to load unique themes and exclusive content over NFC onto the phones, and get a weekly race wallpaper and monthly video content from Red Bull. The offer targets fans of Formula 1, the Red Bull team and local driver Max Verstappen.
