VodafoneZiggo starts Docsis 3.1 tests with customers in Utrecht

Dutch operator VodafoneZiggo has confirmed the start of Docsis 3.1 tests in the Oog in AI neighbourhood in Utrecht. Around 20 premises, including homes and small businesses, will test the faster cable technology, ahead of a planned roll-out across the network by 2020. 

Docsis 3.1 supports increased network capacity and broadband speeds of 1 Gbps and higher. VodafoneZiggo said customers will benefit also from more stable connections, with reduced latency. The tests in Utrecht will already support speeds of 1 Gbps download and 100 Mbps upload. 

The operator plans to roll out Docsis 3.1 gradually by region, with the upgrade expected to be completed in 2020. It's already been testing the standard internally since 2017. 

Ziggo's current maximum broadband speeds is 400 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload, introduced in October 2017.

VodafoneZiggo to deploy Docsis 3.1 from 2020, starting with Utrecht

VodafoneZiggo will start rolling out its new fixed Gigabit network next year in Utrecht. CEO Jeroen Hoencamp made the statement during the opening of the operator's new head office, next to Utrecht Central Station. A pilot is already being carried out in the Utrecht Oog in Al neighbourhood. The network in Utrecht is expected to reach internet speeds of 5 Gbps for download and 1 Gbps for uploading, Hoencamp said. Ziggo to increase triple-play prices from July

Dutch cable operator Ziggo plans another annual increase in prices from 01 July, according to a statement on its customer forum. The increase in fixed prices is needed in order to help pay for network investments, Ziggo said. The detailed changes have not yet been announced, and customers will be informed individually.

VodafoneZiggo to start analogue TV switch-off in April

VodafoneZiggo, the biggest cable operator in the Netherlands, announced plans to end its analogue TV service in favour of all-digital services. The switch-off will start in April in the city of Capelle aan den IJssel and gradually roll out across the Netherlands over the course of two years. The freed up capacity will be used to increase internet speeds to up to 1 Gbps.

Ziggo launches new Connect Box modem, router

The modem includes an Intel CE2652 (Puma 6MG) chipset for docsis and a Maxlinear MxL267 tuner. It is suitable for 24x8 channel bonding in the 108-1002 MHz frequency range. This will allow speeds up to 960 Mbps downlink and 400 Mbps uplink. These are speeds that have not yet been delivered as subscriptions for the consumer market; in order to achieve them, investments will also be needed on part of the network.

The subscriptions have been included in the company's offering since 4 September.
