VR hardware sales to grow to 65 mln units by 2020

Global shipments of Virtual Reality (VR) hardware are set to "skyrocket" this year, with total volumes growing to 9.6 million units from 350,000 in 2015, according to a report from IDC. New products from Samsung, Sony, HTC and Oculus will help the category generate hardware revenues of around USD 2.3 billion in 2016, said IDC, while sales are expected to increase at a CAGR of 183.8 percent over the next five years to reach 64.8 million units in 2020. At the same time, Augmented Reality (AR) hardware is forecast to grow from 400,000 in 2016 to 45.6 million in 2020, said IDC.
