WACS lands in Congo

Congo is now connected to the WACS undersea cable through a landing station in the southern town of Matombi, Africa Info reports. Congo Telecom said the landing station is now operational. Costing around USD 100 million, the first phase of the the country's fibre backbone project will link Brazzaville, Pointe-Noire and Oyo. A second phase, estimated at USD 73 million, will involve connecting regional capitals, followed by a USD 36 million third phase to link district seats and large villages. The network will use equipment from Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei.
