Waipu.tv launches online TV service in Germany

A new online TV platform called Waipu.tv has launched in Germany. It's backed by the company Exaring, in which Freenet invested earlier this year to develop its TV business. Wapiu.tv users do not need a set-top box; the streaming service works over Android and iOS apps. Google’s Chromecast is also supported, and more devices will be added soon, the company said.

About 50 channels are available at launch, and more than 100 will be live from next year. The service can be tested free for 30 days, and the basic bundle with public broadcasters in SD is free. The bundle with private channels costs EUR 4.99 per month; ProsiebenSat has already confirmed it's joining, and channels from RTL and international news broadcasters are also included. A 'Perfect' bundle including content in HD as well as on-the-go usage costs EUR 14.99 per month.
