WarnerMedia names new streaming service HBO Max

AT&T's WarnerMedia announced the name of its new streaming service will be HBO Max. The new direct-to-consumer subscription service is planned to launch in spring 2020 with over 10,000 hours of programming, slightly late than AT&T's original plan for a release in Q4 2019.

AT&T said the service will offer content for everyone, from families with young children to adults of all ages. This includes HBO's back catalogue and WarnerMedia's content library as well as exclusive original programming known as Max Originals. HBO spending on original content has been increased 50 percent over normal levels to support the launch.

Programmes will include the full series of 'Friends', 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air' and 'Pretty Little Liars', new Warner Bros' dramas produced for The CW such as 'Batwoman' and 'Katy Keene', and movie production deals with Greg Berlanti and Reese Witherspoon.
