Wearables drive growth in Dutch telecom device market

Retail sales of telecom hardware in the Netherlands rose 13.2 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, according to GfK. The number of items sold increased to 3.3 million from 3.0 million in Q1 2016. Growth was led by wearables such as fitness trackers and smartwatches, which grew by 45.7 percent, and mobile accessories, up 26.4 percent. In the 'Smartmobile Phones' segment, unit sales fell 3.7 percent year-on-year to 1.12 million. That includes a 0.4 percent drop in smartphone sales.
